simple respect

Hello, since my teacher said I can write about anything I want, I feel it's time to let you all know how crappy some of these people in Mobile can be.

I know I am basically preaching to the choir on this one seeing as how most people I know are waiters or work in the service industry, but I saw something on the News tonight and the reporter was going around talking about what is considered "appropiate" tipping. The non-waiters tended to along with the 15% tipping as being a good or great thing. But what really pissed me off was the attitude of the people who were being quiestioned. So I just wanted to run down a list of reasons why it sucks to be a waiter and why 15% shouldnt be standard but it should be a starting point as to how much you should tip.
*We= Waiters/Waitress/Bartenders...etc

1. We probably hate you, and we more then likely hate your kids. Do not think that our idea of fun is dealing
with you and your stupid bullshit and forcing ourselves to laugh at your stupid jokes and lame ass conversation.

2.Statitically speaking. The restaraunt that we work for does NOT pay us. The wage we make is bascially to nullify the taxes that are taken out of our paychecks every week/2weeks or whatever. DO NOT THINK that we get paid an hourly rate. What you tip us is all we walk home with. PERIOD!

3.Just because you left us a 20% tip does NOT mean that everyone does. more often then not for every 20-30% tip we get we get two or three 15% and seven to eight tips that are less than 15%. (and this is on a good day)

4.There are people out there, and you know who you are, that will leave 2$ on the table despite however good your experience is. THIS IS WRONG AND GOD HATES YOU FOR IT.

5.If you cant afford to tip us, then for the love of fucking God, do NOT go out to eat. We dont want to waste an hour of our life at a job we hate dealing with people we hate if there is nothing to benefit us.

6. THIS IS NOT BURGERKING. You can't always have it your way.

7."You're awesome", "You did a great job", "You're the best waiter ever" DOES NOT PAY THE FUCKING BILLS. IF you are going to mention how good we are then please throw some cash on the table. Because there is not a good thing that you can say that will make us hate you any less when you walk out that door after leaving 5$ on a bill that was 96$.

8.Churchgoers. You are NOT better than us. You do NOT work harder then us. You are the bane of our existance and the day that you understand that we are paying our way through school, trying to stay out of trouble and are very much trying to make endsmeet will be a good day for all of us. God wants you to tip us because then maybe we wont have to SIN so much to get by in life.

9.If you're company is paying for your meal then please just make our day and leave a fat tip on the credit card recepit. You can write it off and we can pay the power bill. Its a win win situation.

10.If you wait tables or bartend please dont tell us how to do our jobs. We know what its like from the inside so you dont have to tell us when we fuck something up. No one is perfect and all of us are just trying to get by in life. Just because you do it one way doesnt mean that we all do. Cut your brothers and sisters in the food/beverage service industry soem fucking slack and be chill. Its better for anyone.

11.Guess what? We dread parties of 20 people. Why? Because a lot of times the store we work for might not allow us to add gradtuity, and we dread the day when there are all seperate checks and half the people decide that someone else is going to leave the tip so they dont have to. Word to the wise. EVERYONE IS THINKING THAT.

12.20% is good, 15% is alright, Less then that is wrong and hateful.

13. Final Note: We understand that some of us are horrible people and shouldn't be allowed to work in this field. IT's ok to think that but also keep in mind that that person may have been stiffed 4 times in a row, be working in a shitty section, and be horribly stressed out about something else and is not able to hide it. So please dont make this persons day anyworse then it has to be. Leave 15% and just try not to let it get to you. Because you have no idea what the fuck is going on with your watier or bartender and you might just be the thing that sets them off and throws them out to the deep end. So just leave that extra dollar more then you were planning and hope that your good actions will help them have a better day. Becauise lets face it. Karma can be a bitch.

Also on a side note. Watch the movie Waiting... and then decide if you want to treat your server like shit.
THIS WAS WRITTEN BY MY FRIEND MATT AND I THOUGHT THAT IT FIT APPROPRIATLY BECAUSE I AM A BARTENDER AT RUBY TUESDAY ON DAUPHIN STREET

This is soo true. I work at a restaurant as well. You don't understand until you work there yourself.

I was here for the Mardi Gras post and since I waited tables, I thought I'd add to your list. Waits are actors.
We conform to the personality of each table (at least "We" do).
We are not cooks. Our job is to deliver the right product to the right person at the right table. We cannot always identify a steak that is cooked wrong. We don't like it when this happens either.
We know that many customers will try to find anything wrong so they can complain and get something free.
I could have added so much more. I wish everyone could wait tables at least once. I honestly think it's the best lesson in public relations.

Good job, Paul
